The last time we had Chy Nwakanma on Glance, she was talking to us about the season 2 of This Is It. And because we are so in-love with her craft, we just had to bring her back; and this time she is answering our 25 Questions Tag.

Go ahead and read all Chy has to say about the business of acting and her life in general.

Describe Chy in 3 words.

Optimistic, Resilient and Easy-going

Tell us about Chy Nwakanma; what’s your story? Where you’re from, age, educational background. Etc

Born in Aba, Abia state. I moved to the United States at age 11. I lived there for about 13 years before I moved back to Nigeria to pursue my acting career. I graduated from the University of Illinois At Chicago with a Bachelor’s degree in performing arts with the focus in Acting. So here I am, living the dream lol

We have seen you take on interesting roles and you wear your character so well. Is it usually difficult fitting into a particular role?

No matter how challenging a certain character may look, the ground work is still the same. The questions you ask yourself about the character remains the same whether you’re playing a serial killer or A saint. So I approach all my characters the same way and try to be as truthful as possible in every given situation. Yes for some characters it’s more challenging to get to their truths, especially if you’ve never experienced the situation first hand, but there are different techniques to get you there.

What attracted you to begin a career as an actor?

I love the fact that I can come outside myself and become someone else completely, while still bringing a bit of myself along. I hope that makes sense lol. No other career gives you that experience.

What is the one thing, people will be surprised to know about you?

.I prefer small gatherings over big parties. I actually get paranoid at large gatherings

In which area would you like to improve as an actor?

I would like to diversify and improve in many dialects and different accents!

What sort of acting roles will you be looking out for in the future?

I’m looking out for roles that will challenge me physically! A role that will require I change my physical appearance drastically!

If you could choose, what three actors would you really want to work with?

In my industry, it will be Nse Ikpe Etim, Gabriel Afoloyan, and Genevieve Nnaji.

Aside acting, what else are you exploring?

I’m exploring Creating interesting contents, like game shows, dating shows, informative shows etc. Definitely part of my retirement plan,

If you were to wake up tomorrow in somebody else’s body, which body will you choose?

Oprah Winfrey lol. She’s such a powerhouse! I want to know what her daily routine is like. I would like to have her mind for like a week lol

How do you feel about the environment industry in Nigeria? And if you could change one thing, what would that be?

The entertainment industry is constantly growing and advancing so we’re making progress. If I could change one thing, I would create more access to funds. I feel a lot of creativity is stifled due to funds. From the Actors, to producers to directors. We need more access to do more. Also we need a guild that protects creatives and looks out for their best interest, both physically and financially.

Your favourite Nollywood Actors? And Hollywood?

Nollywood- Nse Ikpe Etim, Gabriel Afoloyan and I miss watching Tonto Dikeh lol.

Hollywood – Meryl Streep, Gerard Butler, and Voila Davis

Describe yourself in one word. And your life right now using movie titles

. Myself in one word “mysterious”. My life with a movie title “The pursuit of Happiness”

How long have you been acting?

Well Professionally – 5 years. I was a part of a community theater prior to that and I studied Acting for 4 years in University, so in total, both training and working in the field, about 10 years.

And how many movie projects have you been part of? (List them).

Honestly I’ve lost count. It’s quite difficult to list all the projects I’ve been a part of. Especially ones I wasn’t a lead character in. And I’m also still shooting as we speak. To name the few I remember, “ E.V.E, This is it, Hustle, Life 101, and Disguise

What would be a question you’d be afraid to tell the truth on.

Lol my love life. Not necessarily “afraid” but I won’t tell you because it doesn’t directly affect my work. And it’s my business lol

In the Nigerian Entertainment world today. Who would you say inspires you to become more in terms of Acting?

In the Nigerian Entertainment Industry, hmmmm…so here’s the thing, I’m usually more inspired by people’s personal stories of their struggles or challenges, because once I can relate to or have similar challenges, it’s a “light at the end of the tunnel” and it helps boost my confidence and faith. But unfortunately We don’t have that privilege with our entertainers. They hardly share their stories so all we see and know is the glam on social media and that’s it. So this question is one that I honestly have no answer to.

What is your biggest/weirdest fear?

Not living up to the standard I set for myself and having to settle.

What would be your super power if you had one?

I would love to be able to read minds and know peoples true intentions towards me.

What’s your most annoying habit?

it’s not annoying to me but people who stay with me are definitely annoyed. I have a rule to double flush the toilet. I don’t care if you did number 1 or number 2. You must double flush! I hate walking into surprises! It’s one of my biggest pet peeve.

If you could have personally witnessed anything, what would you want to have seen?

I would’ve loved to witness Micheal Jackson Live in concert.

What question do you hate to answer?

There are several! Are you dating anyone? Who are you dating? Is he ready for marriage? Are you ready for marriage? Why did you come back to Nigeria? To name a few!

Describe the most terrifying moment of your life so far. Have you recovered from it?

Today I went to Ebeano Supermarket to buy water because I ran out of water at home and when I got there they locked the door and said they weren’t letting people in and people were just standing outside with their face masks and gloves on. I felt like we are coming to the end of the world. This virus thing is just like a movie. You see people in their cars wearing masks. Everywhere you turn they are wearing masks. Have I recovered? Well I’m ready for whatever is coming next lol. I sha found where to buy water.

You can select one person from history and have them truthfully answer one question, who would you select and what is the question?

I would ask whoever was in that meeting when they decided to give Nigeria her Independence whether looking back at that decision now, if It is still a good decision!

How would you describe your love life at the moment? And what’s the craziest thing you’ve ever done for love?

My love life…I’m learning everyday.
Craziest thing I’ve done for love is sharing my food with him. I hate to share my food lol

Thinking about your career to date; what has been your greatest achievement as an actor?

Having a body of work that constantly speaks for me as an actor.
