25 Questions Tag With Tobi Makinde

We had a chat with Jenifa’s Diary “TININI” in Jenifa’s voice. I’m sure you’ve seen him take on roles in series like “My Siblings and I” and “Industreet” but you probably don’t remember him as the child actor in Kamson n Neighbors. Well, we are pleased to bring him here on Glance Online as he answers our 25 question tag.

Describe Tobi Makinde in 5 words.

Tell us about yourself, state of origin, education, what’s your story in a nutshell.

Well, my name is Tobi Makinde and I’m from Osun state and a graduate of Theatre arts from the University of Lagos ( Both first degree and Masters degree in the same discipline). My story in a nutshell is a story of an underdog becoming the unexpected champion or the story of the rejected stone becoming the chief cornerstone. Lol.

How did Acting Begin for you, share with us your journey to fame.

My dad introduced me to acting in front of a camera at a very young age, age 7 to be precise. It was a movie titled “Silenced” produced by Ralph Nwadike and directed by Tunji Bamishigbin. After then, I didn’t do anything until I was 13 years old and that was when I landed the role (Nathaniel Ibekwe) that gave me prominence back then. It was a sitcom titled “Kamson and Neighbors”, produced and directed by Tunji Bamishigbin. After several years of running the show, it came to an end, and I was back to attending auditions, getting turned down, getting extra roles (waka pass) etc….lol. The journey to fame hasn’t been actually an easy one. The day I decided to attend my last audition ever was the day I attended the audition organized by Sceneone productions owned by Mrs Funke Akindele Bello, for one of the new shows they were coming up with at the time called “Industreet”. To my surprise, I was picked for a role amongst the multitude that came for the audition. From there, I met with aunty Funke and the rest is history today because from that point on she became a mother to me.

We love how you deliver the character Timini on Jennifer’s Diary. How did you get that role? And how would you describe the experience so far!

Well, I’d say it’s God’s grace because, after I landed the role of Feva on “Industreet”, for some reason aunty Funke took interest in me and decided to give me a job as a production manager even though I had never done it before. From there, after a while of working behind the camera, she told me she had a character in mind that she’d love me to play, and I said I was willing to take it on and that’s how I got the role of Timini. The experience so far has been wonderful because the role has opened several doors for me, gotten me sveral award nominations and increased my fan base. It has also reminded people that I was that kid actor they used to see on their screen years ago.

What was it like working with the cast and crew of My Siblings and I and of-course Jenifa’s Diary?

It’s been great and comfortable for me because it’s just like working with family. I’m familiar with all the cast and crew members and of course because I’ve also been given the opportunity to direct a couple of episodes on the two shows, this has afforded me a more cordial relationship with all these people.

On your journey to fame:  What would you say brought you to limelight?

Kamson n Neighbors and Jenifa’s Diary.

How do you feel about social media bullies? And have you ever been bullied on social media?

I feel social media bullies are cowards and they would rather just express their frustrations by bullying people online. So my advise is to always ignore and block them. I’ve been bullied on a couple of occasions but I don’t let it get to me. I’m too busy to be bothered….lol

What projects are you currently working on?  What should we expect from you before the year runs out and in 2020?

Currently, I’m filming concluding episodes of My Siblings and I and Jenifa’s Diary for the year. In 2020, I can only tell everyone to wait for it. There are so many projects in the pipeline and I can’t for y’all to see them.

Are you single? In a relationship? What’s the craziest thing you’ve ever done for love?

I’d rather keep my relationship life as confidential. But the craziest thing I’ve ever done for love was chilling with my ex girlfriend while she was making out with another guy lol. I was so young and naive though and it was my first year in the University.

What would be  a question you’d be afraid to tell the truth on.

Who do I love most between my mum and my dad? I won’t be really afraid but I’d be indecisive in answering the question.

Would you say you’re living the life you’ve always dreamt of?

I’m not yet there, but I’m beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel.

If not acting, what other profession would you have chosen?

I’d be a lecturer or an OAP if I wasn’t acting.

Internationally; which Actor would you like to work with? And in Nigeria? Why?

Internationally – Jake Gyllenhaal, Tom Hardy, Denzel Washington, Idris Elba and many more.

Nigeria- Ramsey Noah, Olu Jacobs They all have one thing in common and that is versatility at their craft and that is why I’d love to work with them
