We had an interesting interview with the fast rising Fashion Entrepreneur – Mary Ufot, professionally known as #Daseamstress. A graduate of Caritas University who left her 9 to 5 job to pursue a career in fashion Designing.

Which left us wondering,  why did she do it? Let’s find out together.

What does fashion and style mean to you?Fashion and style for me are two different things but are relative. Fashion is simply styling an outfit to suit an era or trend or event. While style is a fashion statement. A fashion sense doesn’t need to make sense to others.

Why did you decide to choose fashion designing as a career? – Welll, at first it was all about having something extra to do while on my 9-5, but then i discovered designing kept my brain active! I kept trying out new things and my passion for it grew.

The beautiful part is that there is always a fashion challenge out there. I love challenges that will push me to be better.

What according to you is a favourite part of being a fashion designer? The fact that i can make my sunday outfit Saturday night🤣🤣🤣🤣. Trust me it feels good saying “oh I made this last night”

Taking a look at the designs you have created so far, what or who were your inspiration while creating each designs? My inspiration comes basically from the past designs i made. The drive to do something better or do same design better.

What skills do you think are necessary for every fashion designer? – CREATIVITY OHHHH. being able to look at a design and figure out how to construct it or being able to conceive a design and bring it to reality. And more importantly, Patient is indeed a virtue.

How do you stay up to date regarding fashion trends? I watch and attend available runway shows and I follow some top fashion bloggers and lovers.

What do you consider your greatest strengths and weaknesses? – My relentless drive to achieve something within a time range is my greatest strength. Hmm my greatest weakness should be not having access to certain machines and equipment to work.

What was your biggest fear when you decided to start your own business? Not meeting up with the fashion demands of people as fashion trends were progressing on a fast lane. But i am catching up now.
