WHAT IS MET GALA ANYWAY? It’s known as “the fashion party of the year,” The Costume Institute Gala at New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art is the biggest fashion fundraising event. The annual party, always holds on the first Monday in May, giving the international stars and famous faces from the realm of Fashion, Music, Film and Art a chance to push the limits of fashion — With Tickets, which cost about $30,000 each, and tables for $275,000 proceeds going to the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute, which happens to be the only curatorial department at the museum that funds itself. It was founded by Publicist Eleanor Lambert and it was first held in 1948. The 2018 Met Gala marks the 70th anniversary of the event and it was chaired by Anal Clooney, Rihanna, and Donatella Versace.
